Are you planning on treating yourself to a portable scooter? Want to know what to look for in a travel scooter? We've put together this helpful blog post to help you out!

If you love to travel, but you need a mobility scooter to get around, you might need to start looking at treating yourself to a portable mobility scooter. This can be a tricky decision, and there's a few things that you need to look for when choosing. Let's take a look at what they are!

Size

The Heartway Brio 3 Deluxe and the Heartway Verve are both great sized products.

One of the major things to look out for in a travel mobility scooter is size. This is something that is important for any kind of travel. Whether it be via car, plane, bus or train. Being able to fold it down and stow it away easily is something that will make everything easier. Not only that, but size may be a factor when it comes to where you will be staying and how much room you will have.

Weight

The Easy Move S21M or the S21A are both incredibly lightweight.

The weight of a travel mobility scooter is also incredibly important. Whether due to airline restrictions, or just being able to lift it easily into the boot of the car. Luckily our lightest scooter, the Heartway Easy Move, weighs in at only 19.6kg!

Folding Function

The Heartway Verve has an autofolding function, while the S21M Heartway Easy Move has an easy to use foot lever for the manual folding function.

As well as being a manageable size and weight, you'll find you'll need a scooter that can fold down for easier stowage. There are two different kinds of folding functions as well. Firstly, automatic folding, which makes things easier with just the press of a button. Secondly, manual folding function. It's as easy as pressing down the lever, and folding your scooter down in seconds!

Battery

You will need a plane-safe battery along with the accompanying MSDS in order to fly with your scooter.

If you are intending to fly, you will need to ensure that you have a scooter with a plane-safe battery, along with the MSDS to present to the airline when you fly. Without this, you will not be able to take your scooter on the plane. Luckily, we have a wide range of mobility scooters with plane-safe batteries fit for flight (however, you should always check with your airline first).

Terrain

Finding out what the terrain is like in your destination will help you figure out which scooter is the best fit.

The terrain that you expect to be using your scooter on when visiting any particular place needs to be taken into account. Some portable scooters are better designed to handle different terrains than others, such as the Heartway Verve with its' robust design. The surfaces you expect to traverse will influence which is the most suitable portable mobility scooter for you. Do you expect mostly flat ground, or expect to be mostly indoors? Or will the ground be a little more rough?

Distance

Knowing how far you can go with your scooter on a single charge is important.

You will also need to take into account the kind of distances you expect to be using your scooter for. Some portable scooters can go a little bit further than others, depending on how you use them and the kind of ground you're using it on. Knowing what kind of distances to expect from a single charge, and knowing the kind you'd like to be able to go will help in your choice.
